Introverted vs. Extroverted People
Introverted people are completely different from extroverted and vice versa. An extroverted person has what’s called outward energy, which is motivated by others as well as directed toward others. An introverted person has what’s called inward energy, in which they have a great thought process that doesn’t require outward stimulation, but they can be over stimulated by others. The key is to get both the introverted and extroverted personalities to come together to make decision.
One of the project team members could have strong oral communications, but lack the technical understanding. It is important to create the atmosphere for the rest of the team members so that every individual will feel open to sharing their input without fear of being turned down. This can be accomplished in many ways. I personally like Covey’s method on improving effectiveness, because in the long run it’s all about being proactive, productive, and efficient. Covey created seven habits to pick up in order to improve this.
Some of his habits included beginning with the end in mind, seek first to understand, then to be understood, and sharpen the saw. Beginning with the end in mind allows you to set a mission on life so that you can focus on the main purpose of the present. Seek first to understand, then to be understood involves empathic listening. Empathic listing is accomplished by setting aside your bias and truly trying to understand another perspective.
Lastly, sharpening your saw is a metaphor of complete rejuvenation by physically, mentally, spiritually and socially cleansing yourself of stress. The goal of this is to relieve any frustration you may bring to the project. I preferably like to focus on those three applications because it will allow the extroverts to listen through understanding, and give the introverts the ability to share their thoughts without worry of rejection.
